Confederate Veteran and pioneer dies Christmas Day
Funeral services for Frank (Marion)Shaffer, age 94, who died at his home. Here Friday, were conducted at White Oak Church. by Rev. A. C, Smith, assisted by bro Bob Roach. Burial was in Duncan Cemetery. Mr. Shaffer is a veteran of the confederate Army. he was born in Washington County AR in 1836 a year before Franklin County was formed. When he was about 7 years old. His parents came to this County and homestead the farm know as Williams Truck farm following the Civil War, Mr. Shafer went to Texas where he remained until 1884, when he returned to Franklin county with his family. He has lived here continuously since that time. Mr Shaver is survived by three sons, Charley of Ozark , Perry of Council Bluff, Iowa. and Earl of Taft Calif.; and six, daughters, Msdames A.H. Wisdom, Mrs. Walter Clay, Mrs. Jim Walls, Mrs. Oscar Clay of Ozark, A.G. Wisdom of Fayetteville and Mrs. J J Brooks of Glendale, Calif;. source: The Spectator 75 Years ago dated December 29, 1931.
