November 7, 1911 - January 15, 1968
John Hamp Powell, 56, of Port Arthur, Tex., died Monday night while aboard ship in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Powell was born Nov.7, 1911 in Chidester, the son of J. P. and Lora Garner Powell. He was chief pumper on a tanker for the Texas Co. Survivors include his stepmother, Mrs. J. P. Powell of El Dorado ; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Aldridge of Little Rock, Mrs. A. G. Buckworth, Jr. of Seaford, Del.; three brothers, M. D. Powell of Longview, Tex., J. E. Powell of Abilene, Tex., L. W. Powell of Smackover; one sister, Mrs. C. T. Herrick, of Longview, Tex.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be announced by Rumph Mortuary. (El Dorado Times - January 16, 1968)
