Etoile Utley passed away on July 22, 2011 at Countryside Manor in Lamar, Arkansas. Born on November 5, 1919, in Austin Arkansas, Etoile was the only child of Frank and Berdie Hilton. She married B. J. Utley in 1938, and they operated the grocery store and gas station in Austin until moving to North Little Rock in 1942. Etoile worked outside the home from time to time, but her main calling in life was caring for her husband, her home, and her two daughters. Etoiles dedication to her family was never more apparent than when her parents were no longer able to live by themselves, and she moved them into her own home to care for them. A typical weekday morning had Etoile preparing and serving three meals before 9:00 in the morning: the first for her husband before he left for work, the second for her parents, and the third for her brother-in-law who lived next door.

Etoile was a very talented musician, having served as both pianist and organist at Austin Station Baptist Church for many years. In her later years, Etoile confessed that as child, she and a friend would sneak into the Methodist Church in Austin so they could play the piano. When they found the Methodist Church locked, they would find their way into the Baptist Church to play. Her friends father suspected the two young girls were the culprits, and when he discussed the matter with Frank and Berdie, they soon found the money to purchase a used piano for Etoile. She played for almost 8 decades, just about any song from the hymnal, in just about any key, with or without music, but Etoile will be remembered most by her very lively rendition of Give The World A Smile.

When Etoiles husband of 68 years passed away, she lived with her daughter, Linda near Dover, Arkansas, then later moved to Countryside Manor in Lamar. Etoile is survived by Linda and her husband Calvin Riedel of Dover; daughter, Jane Utley and Audie Waterson of Austin; grandson, John Riedel and his wife, Amber, of Danville, Arkansas; granddaughter, Becky Sealock and her husband Jason of Benton Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Morgan Riedel, Braelyn Riedel, and Jett Sealock.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Moores Cabot Funeral Home with Bro. Win Callison officiating. Interment will follow in Dunkard Brethren Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Austin Station Baptist Church Music Fund, P O Box 105, Austin AR 72007, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Moores Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816. The family wants to thank the kind, compassionate staff of Countryside Manor for taking care of Etoile for the past four years, and to Johnson County Hospice for their support during the past few weeks.
