SPRINGDALE — Velma Varner Fletcher, 77, of Springdale died July 2, 2002. She was born July 9, 1924, in Black Oak to John and Rhoda Varner. She was a member of Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale and was a life member of the Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of the Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an elementary teacher in California before moving to Springdale in 1977. She taught in the Springdale school system a short time before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Fletcher, to whom she was married 60 years; one daughter, Sandra Fletcher of the home; one son, Jack Fletcher and wife Sharon of Morgan Hill, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louetta Jorgenson of Springdale and Madeline Long of Lake City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ with Gary Frazier, Dub DeLoach and Paul Woodhouse officiating.
Visitation begins Thursday afternoon at Sisco Chapel in Springdale.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Bill Severson, Jon Fletcher, Eric Severson, Jason Kooken, Mike Daniels and Shaun Slaters.
Honorary pallbearers will to Cliff Colwell, Mike Huddleston and Charles Coward.
