FOWLER, Mr. and Mrs. P.Z. - P.Z. Fowler died Saturday, January 1st at his home on West Poplar street and his wife died Monday, January 3d, without ever having learned that her husband had preceded her to the Great Beyond. Both deaths were the result of pneumonia. Mr. Fowler was ill only about ten days. Mrs. Fowler had been an invalid for years and was seldom seen outside the home. Her condition was not considered serious until a day or two previous to her husband's death and she was unconscious when he died. They were the same age, 72 years. The funeral of Mr. Fowler was held at the First M.E. church, of which both he and his wife were members, on Sunday morning at eleven o'clock and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.M. Dugger. At the cemetery the members of the local G.A.R. post took charge of the services and the address was made by Dr. A. Blanchard, who paid a very high tribute to the memory of the deceased. He said that the greatest thing he could say of Mr. Fowler was that he was a "Christian gentleman." Not all Christians are gentlemen and many gentlemen are not Christians, but the departed brother combined all the graces and virtues of both and was loved and respected by all who knew him. The funeral of Mrs. Fowler was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 and was conducted by Rev. Dugger. Both interments were made in the city cemetery. P.Z. Fowler was born in Wayne Co., Ohio March 6, 1843. At an early age he moved with his parents to Wisconsin and later to Iowa, where most of his life was spent. In 1862 he enlisted in an Iowa Regiment and served until the close of the war. In 1868 he married Charlotte J. Webb, who died July 7, 1886. To this marriage was born three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Lehmkuhl of Lodge Pole, Neb.; Mrs. Sadie Slawson of Council Bluffs, Ia. and Miss Cora Fowler of Rogers. On May 11, 1892 Mr. Fowler married Miss Orissa A. Coppedge. They came to Rogers from Watkins, Benton Co., Iowa eight years ago. Orissa A. Coppedge was born August 8, 1843 in Ohio and moved to Iowa with her parents at the age of nine years. She was a woman with many splendid Christian virtues and her married life was a happy one. We doubt not that she would have counted it a blessing to follow so quickly after the one she loved so dearly. Mrs. Fowler leaves two sisters, Mrs. H.H. Chapin and Miss Celia Coppedge of Rogers, and three brothers, J.A. Coppedge, C.E. Coppedge and Lester Coppedge.
