James Edward "Jim" Brooks, 80, a resident of Russellville, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, just days shy of his 81st birthday.

He was born August 8, 1930, in Monroe County, Alabama to Walter and Siddie Mae Brooks, the youngest of five children.

Jim served admirably in the United States Air Force, was involved in the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. After graduation from the University of Alabama in 1957, Jim went to work for the United States Soil Conservation Service. He retired from the Fort Worth office and moved to Russellville in 1986. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, whether hunting turkey in Alabama, simply walking in the woods or gardening in his own backyard. He specially loved time spent with family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Russellville and was a true bible scholar, enjoying reading and talking about biblical truths. He was also a member of the River Valley Gun Club and a lifetime member of the V F W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice Gleason Brooks; two brothers, Glen and Archie Brooks; and a sister, Marguerite Booker.

Survivors include his adoring wife, Martha Wilson Brooks of Russellville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jeannie and Wayne Marsh of Little Rock, Judy Neagles and Joan Hashbarger, both of Russellville; three step-sons, Steve and Rhett Wilson, both of Little Rock and Richard Wilson of Russellville; a brother, Earl Brooks of Evergreen, Alabama; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Margaret Ann Gibson of Mobile, Alabama; two special great-nephews, Bobby and Jeffrey Gibson, both of Mobile; and numerous other extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Mr Brooks' grandsons.
