McCLELLAND, Mrs. John M. {MORRIS} - Word was received here Sunday morning that Mrs. John M. McClelland had died the day previous in the hospital at San Jose, Calif. The funeral party left San Jose Tuesday morning for Rogers and is expected to reach here Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon but it was not known at this writing whether they would be at the Morris residence on West Walnut or at the Presbyterian church. While Mrs. McClelland's death came as a great shock to our people, they had been in a measure prepared for it by the announcement in last week's Democrat of the operation performed on October 11th and the fact that her condition was considered serious. The message came direct from Mr. McClelland and it was realized that friends and relatives must prepare for the worst. Mrs. McClelland was a daughter of Mrs. C.D. Morris of Rogers, who had been with her for several weeks. Besides her husband and mother the deceased is survived by two children, a boy and a girl, by a sister, Mrs. Cloud Houx, of Columbus, Kansas and one brother, S.M. Morris, of Lufkin, Texas. She was a niece of Mrs. R.A. Long of Kansas City. Previous to going to San Jose early in September to join her husband, who had preceded her a month or so, Mrs. McClelland had lived in Rogers for nearly twenty years and was one of the best known women of our city. She took a prominent part in the social and club activities here and was a woman of many splendid qualities. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Rogers at the time of her death. Three members of the Morris family are buried here and it is a coincidence that the "Fifteen Years Ago" items of this week tell of the death of the youngest daughter of the family, Miss Lillian. The father, C.D. Morris, came here from Columbus, Kansas and was engaged in the lumber business. The Morris home on West Walnut has been also the home of J.M. McClelland and family and the body of the deceased will be taken there upon arrival. Mrs. McClelland was born in Iowa but most of her life previous to coming to Rogers was spent at Columbus, Kansas. Rogers friends unite in extending to the broken hearted mother, the stricken husband and the motherless children, all the sympathy that it is possible for the human heart to feel - and that cannot be expressed in words.

Funeral services for Mrs. J.M. McClelland, who died Nov. 5th at San Jose, Calif., were held in Rogers Sunday afternoon November 13th at the home of her mother, Mrs. C.D. Morris, on West Walnut street at two o'clock. The funeral party arrived from Kansas City, where it had stopped for a few hours, on Saturday noon and Mr. McClelland and the children, Martha Sue and John, and Mrs. Morris, were accompanied by a number of relatives who had joined them enroute. Services were conducted by Rev. T.E. McSpadden and Rev. H.R. Osborne, and the high esteem in which Mrs. McClelland and family are held by our people was strongly manifested by the large number of representative citizens who gathered to pay a last tribute to the memory of the departed. Among those from out of town who were here for the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Long of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Morris of Lufkin, Texas; Mrs. Cloud Houx and daughter, Miss Mary Louise, and George Hood of Columbus, Kansas; Rev. C.W. McClelland of Chariton, Iowa. M.T. McClelland of Ottumwa, Iowa; Charles Wilson of Caney, Kansas; George Wilson of Wichita, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Spencer and Ed Hood of Pittsburg, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. H.A. LaRue of Columbus, Kan.
