Walter Hovis was born May 17, 1895 at Warm Springs and died April 24, 1978 in the emergency room at Community Methodist Hospital, Paragould, where he was taken for treatment suffered in an automobile accident. He was 82 years old and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He resided at 203 East Second Street, Corning.
His first wife, Mrs. Ada Hovis, died on December 24, 1975. He married Mrs. Mae Rapert on October 9, 1976, and she survives.
Other survivors are two brothers, Grandvil Hovis of Success and Eli Hovis of Corning; two half-brothers, Claude Bellah and Willie Bellah both of Corning; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ada Baker and Mrs. Tillie Brooks, both of Corning. There are also two stepsons, Oscar Rapert of St. Louis and Wilda Rapert of Pocahontas and five step-daughters, Mrs. Herbert Witcher and Mrs. Virgil Smith of Corning; Mrs. Rita Jackson, Mrs. Ruby Simmons, and Mrs. Verneal Treloggin, all of St. Louis.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Russell-Ermert Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Weaver and Reverend J.A. Nochta officiating. Burial will be in Richwoods Cemetery.
