Reuben "R.C." Goodlett, 79, of the Decatur-Mason Valley community area, died Friday, Oct. 7, 1994, at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1914, at Nashville, a son of Whitmore Spartan and Sena Cowling Goodlett, he was a retired carpenter and served 16 years on the Decatur School Board. He attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas, and moved to the Mason Valley area in 1952 from Dunn, Texas. He was a Methodist and attended the Mason Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Viah Meador Goodlett of the home; a son, Whitmore Craig Goodlett of Decatur; five daughters, Dana Ann McDowell of Centerton, Ruby Turnipseed of Rogers, Judy Davis of Decatur, Linda Allen of Gentry and Viah Carlson of Centerton; three brothers, Joseph O. Goodlett of Conroe, Texas, Eunice J. Goodlett of Dunn, Texas, and Charles L. Goodlett of Colorado City, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mason Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Johny Lawson and Bobby Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Coffelt Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville.

Memorials may be made to the Mason Valley Baptist Church.

DECATUR — Viah Meador Goodlett, 92, passed from this earthly life into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Heritage Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Rogers, Ark.

Viah was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Erath County, Texas, to Willie Edna Cox and Nat Meador. She was reared by her mother and stepfather, Robert Lee Bunch, graduating in 1937, from Dunn, Texas, High School.

She married the love of her life, Reuben Craig Goodlett, on May 14, 1939. Together they raised cotton in West Texas until they came to Northwest Arkansas in the early 1950s, fell in love with the area and bought a farm near Vaughn, Ark. Here Viah and Reuben reared their family of six children, becoming firmly implanted in the fabric of Benton County.

Viah loved her family and her church, Mason Valley Baptist Church, where she served as a Bible teacher, Sunday school teacher, with the Women's Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School, and in any capacity where she was needed. She lived out her faith daily in the lives of her family, friends, neighbors and any strangers she might meet. Viah was a well-known landscape artist in the area, teaching classes at the Adult Education Center. She retired from Bemco in Centerton, Ark., and was active in Home Demonstration Club, a 4-H leader, helped with many school activities, but most of all, enjoyed big family gatherings at their farm with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Reuben, on Oct. 7, 1994; and one granddaughter, Sena Nicole Goodlett, on Nov. 29, 2006; her two brothers, Van Meador and J.L. Bunch; and sister, Ruth Franks.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Dana Ann McDowell of Centerton, Ruby and John Turnipseed of Rogers, Judy and Vernon Davis of Decatur, Linda Allen of Gentry, Viah and David Carlson of Bentonville, and Craig Goodlett and Tina Warford of Decatur.

Survivors also include grandchildren, Charles (Sandy) McDowell, Kathy (Brett) Thomas, Rachel McDowell, Lt. Colonel John (Tricia) Turnipseed, William (Tammie)Turnipseed, Tanya Burns (Krit Radmer), Zeke (Andrea) Allan, Zane (Delta) Allen, April (Brannon) Randolph, Kimberly Viah and Michael Carlson, Keith and Nicholas Goodlett; and great-grandchildren, Andrea and Andrew McDowell, Savanna, Caroline, Tiffany and John III Turnipseed, Alyssa Allen, Zeb and Rosalie Viah Allen; sisters-in-law, Doris Bunch of Odessa, Texas, Wanda Goodlett of Dunn, Texas; and brother-in-law, Charles Goodlett of Colorado City, Texas; and a large extended family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Stockdale Funeral Services in Rogers, Ark.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Mason Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Hinson, the Rev. Earl Willoughby and the Rev. Bobby Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Collett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Viah's grandsons.
