February 13, 1879 - December 1, 1954
John M Lide, age 75, lifelong resident of Camden and member of a prominent Ouachita County family died in a local hospital early Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. Mr. Lide was born February 13, 1879 in Camden. He was the son of J. E. and Louise Greening Lide. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church and a past superintendent of the Sunday School. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillian Rumph Lide; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Frazer of Monroe, La.; three sons, Marion Hugh Lide of Springhill, La., James O. Lide of Crossett, and Jake Lide of Malvern; two sisters, Mrs. Dan Davies, Sr., of Camden, and Miss Margaret Lide of Magnolia. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. Thursday by Dr. T. L. Harris. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home. The body will remain at the chapel until 2:00 p.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour before funeral time. Deacons of the Baptist church will be honorary pallbearers. Mr. Lide was active in the insurance field here as well as in department store business and other businesses. He was at Lide's store for a number of years also before it was sold. (Camden News - December 1, 1954)
