Mrs. Martha Jane Russell Dies at Age 89 Years

Mrs. Martha Jane Russell, one of this community’s oldest and most highly respected women, died Saturday, November 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Seay of this place. She was 89 years of age.

Mrs. Russell was born in Illinois, but moved to Tennessee as a child, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Joseph Russell, who preceded her in death by several years. She moved with her family to this section some 70 years ago and remained a resident of Izard County the remained of her life. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the Methodist Church. Her death followed several months illness.

Surviving are two, daughters, Mrs. W. J. Seay of Calico Rock and Mrs. W. C. McNeill of Creswell; and four sons, John Russell of Calico Rock, Ed of Calico Rock, Ernest of Creswell and Champ of North Little Rock.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Luther K. Wilson, pastor of the Calico Rock Methodist Church, where held Monday afternoon. Burial was in Palestine Cemetery, the Roller-Barber Funeral Service being in charge of arrangements.
