Services Held For Charlie S. Simmons

Charles S. Simmons, age 89, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Cone of Newburg, Tuesday, October 2. Mr. Simmons was born near Union City, Tenn., on June 18, 1867. He moved here with his parents at the age of three years and spent practically all his life in Izard County.

He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Lou Gray in 1890. She preceded him in death seven years ago. To this union were born two sons, Anglas, who died in infancy and Hubert Simmons, now of Searcy: two daughters, Mrs. Lois Kent of Harrison and Mrs. Pearl Cone of Newburg.

Mr. Simmons was a farmer and merchant, having operated a general mercantile business at Newburg for a number of years. He was one of Izard County’s better known and most respected citizens being respected and admire by all who knew him. He was known by his friends and neighbors to always stand for the better things in his county and community. All who knew him deeply mourn his passing.

In addition to the above named children, Mr. Simmons is survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; also a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hugh Cooper, Baptist minister of Melbourne. Grandsons were pall bearers. Burial was in the Page Cemetery near Newburg.
