AGED WAR EAGLE PHYSICIAN DIED SATURDAY NIGHT

Dr. John B. Kilgo, well known resident of War Eagle, died at his resident of War Eagle, died at his home there Saturday night at the age of 79 years. He had been in ill health for over two years and bedfast for the past two months.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. John T. Hinds of Rogers were held at the home Sunday afternoon. Music was furnished by the Bentonville quartet composed of F.M. Brock, David Furry, B.B. Spencer and Truman Galloway, with Miss Frances Allen as accompanist. Burial was made in the Cottage Hill cemetery near Best.

Dr. John Booker Kilgo was born in Fulton, Miss., Oct. 19, 1854 and passed away near War Eagle April 14th. He spent his early manhood in Mississippi where he practiced medicine at the age of 17. He was a pioneer doctor in the Indian Territory where he doctored among the Indians for many years. Here he married Helen Lee. To this union were born three children all of whom preceded him in death. After the death of his wife, he moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas to make his home. There he married Miss Lena Smedley. To them were born 14 children, three of whom passed away in infancy.

Thoses remaining to mourn his loss are: his widow, four sons, B.B. Kilgo and John Kilgo of Best, Ark. T.P Kilgo of Bentonville, and Eugene of the home; seven daughters, Mrs. Pon Brodrick of Best; Mrs. Royce Crossman of Sedro Wooley, Wash.; Mrs. Amos Byers of Mansfield, Ark., Mrs. Clarence Bettes of Duncan, Okla., Mrs. Forrest Clark War Eagle and Mrs. Lena White of Rogers, Mrs. Alonzo Hagwood of the home. All except Mrs. Crossman was present at this last illness and at death. Besides his own immediate family, he leaves 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Dr. Kilgo has been a resident of Benton County for 26 years, the family moving here in 1907. He had been actively engaged as a physician for more than 40 years before ill health forced him to retire to private life. His passing will be keenly felt by a host of friends.
