COMPTON, David - David Compton was born at New Egypt, New Jersey Nov. 2, 1850. He was the direct descendant of the earliest settlers of New Jersey. His ancestor, Wm. Compton, was a member of Capt. Bowen's party which settled at Middletown in 1667. His close relations still live in the same community. In early life he became a school master. Graduated with high honors at Princeton University in the class of 1874 and completed a post graduate course at the University of Heidelburg in Germany. He was principal of the High Schools at Mt. Sterling, Illinois; Keokuk, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa, where he removed from to Gentry, Ark. in 1895. Mr. Compton married in 1876 to Mary E. Heller. To them were born seven children; the four oldest sons preceding the father to the grave by many years. He is survived by his aged wife, sons David and William, and daughter, Mary. He was a member of the Protestant Church since the early 80's. He was 72 years, 9 months and 6 days of age. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sherman and the remains laid to rest Aug. 13, 1923 at Bozarth cemetery.
