Company B
123 Indiana Infantry
Civil War Union
November 1840 - Death date Unknown

Served during the Civil War, Co B, 123rd Indiana Infantry. The following was compiled from Washington Co. and US Census records. In 1880, Joseph, wife Nancy Jane, and two children (Milton C., b. 1878 and May Myrtle b. 1879) were living in Henry Co., Missouri. By the end of 1880, they had moved into Arkansas. Joe acquired 160 acres of land under the Land Act of 1862. The location was in section 26, east of the Mount Zion Cemetery and on the western line of that section. Mount Zion is in section 27 and to the west. The next child, Mandy (Amanda Marie), was born Dec. 1880 in Arkansas. Mandy married Bayles Griffin Lewis in Washington Co., Ark. on 30 April 1903; both were residents of Carter. Other children born to this union were Cyrus J. born May 1883; Dollie, born Feb. 1891; James R. born Aug. 1892. Nancy Jane Hill died just after 1900 and prior to 1904. On 03 April 1904, Joseph married Miss Minerva C. Ramsey; both were residents of the Sulphur City community near Carter's Store. Minerva is listed as Cleo P. Hill in the 1910 Census. Joseph is listed a Joe. It appears that Joe died after the 1910 US Census was taken and before the 1920 US Census.
