Verna Bell Abney Simpson of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999. She was 94. She was born Nov. 5, 1904 in Cecil to Julius and Carrie Mae Sanders Abney. She was a homemaker and a member of Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Faril Simpson; her parents; one granddaughter, Karen Simpson; four brothers, Jasper Abney, Jerald Abney, Lester Abney and Harley Abney; and two sisters, Viola Bingham and Oval Mae Carr. Survivors include four sons, Faril Simpson of Conway, Herman Simpson and Duel Simpson, both of Sheridan, and Eulan Simpson of Benton; three daughters, Reba Smith, Leta Veazey of Sheridan and Ima Thomason of Wichita Falls, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and special hospice caregiver, Verna Mae Thomason of Sheridan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Buie Funeral Home. Funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Click, the Rev. Doyle Caldwell and the Rev. Paul Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan.
