February 6, 1923 - June 1, 2011
w/o Richard Lee Davenport m. 26 Sep 1943
d/o George & Amelia Josephine (Urbanovich) Martisek
Mary Martisek Davenport, a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on June 1, 2011 following a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born to Polish and Austrian immigrants who did not speak English, Mary endured a tough but blessed life. They lived off of the land in the Ozark Mountains near Buffalo National River where she met her future husband, Lee Davenport. Lee and Mary were blessed with two children, Eddie and Janice. Mary worked very hard as a homemaker and caregiver. While raising her two children, she provided complete care for 20 years for her mother who was an invalid due to Alzheimer's Disease, all without modern amenities. She was a caring and thoughtful grandmother and great-grandmother, and she was a wonderful cook. Her children and grandchildren brought her joy, and her family will always remember the amazing example she set for us all. Throughout her life, Mary endured the premature deaths of those closest to her, including two young adult brothers - one in a hunting accident and one in World War II. She also lost both of her children to cancer in their 40s and 50s. Through all of these hardships, Mary remained the sweetest, most devout Christian lady you could ever imagine. She literally gave her entire life away to her family and others. Mary was a true "Virtuous Woman" as described in Proverbs 31 - a blessing to all who knew her. Mary Davenport was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 6, 1923 to George and Amelia Martisek. Mrs. Davenport is survived by a son-in-law, Doug Rucker of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a sister, Helen Nelson of Sunnyvale, California; and a sister-in law, Dorothy Martisek of El Dorado, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Chad Davenport, and wife Kelly, of Peel, Arkansas; Jason Rucker, and wife, Wendy, of Huntsville, Alabama; Garrett Rucker and wife, Shannon, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and Ross Rucker and wife, Abbie, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee in 2001; her son, Eddie; her daughter, Janice; four brothers: George Martisek, William Martisek, Joe Martisek, and Frankie Martisek. Visitation for Mary Davenport will be Friday, June 3, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and the Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Interment will follow at De Soto Cemetery near Yellville.
