Ambrose Wickersham, one of the pioneer citizens of this section, died at his home near Norfork Tuesday night. Mr. Wickersham had been in failing health for a number of years and was found dead in bed. He had passed his 80th year and had retired from active work. He was highly respected and counted among the oldest and best known citizens in the county. He had served as clerk of Marion County and was well known in that section. He is survied by his wife and several grown children and a host of friends who will regret to learn of his death. Funeral services were held at Galatia Cemetery.

Mr. Wickersham spent many years of his life in this county and for a number of years was recognized as one of the leading educators in this section of the state.
In 1888 he was elected county and circuit clerk of this county in which capacity he served until 1892 and was recognized as one of the most efficient officials the county ever had.
Soon after he retired from office he sold his 1200 acres of land on Lees Mountain and removed to Baxter County where he lived until his death.
