ROGERS — Beatrice Blackburn Smith, 90, of Rogers died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002. She was born March 15, 1912, in Spring Valley. She moved with her parents in 1920 to a farm just north of Tucks Chapel. Her father Jake was a farmer; they raised apples, strawberries, cattle and, later chickens. Beatrice went to elementary school at Burkshed, near War Eagle, and Hopewell School, which is no longer standing but was about one-fourth mile west of Tucks Chapel. She moved to California in the mid-1940s and was employed with the state of California for many years, as a housekeeping supervisor, and retired in the 1980s.

She was the great-granddaughter of Sylvanus Blackburn, founder of War Eagle, also known as Blackburn Town during the early 1800s.

She was preceded in death by her two children, Harold and Imogene. She has four grandchildren, Randy Kelly and his wife Jeanie of Rogers, Joyce Mader and her husband Robert of Rogers, Donna Picone and her husband Pat of Modesto, Calif., and Karen Bristow and her husband Derek of Forest Grove, Ore.; 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Waggner, Anthony Mader, Robert Mader, Randy Kelly, Pat Picone and William Shepherd. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Kelly and Dewayne Mueller.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucks Chapel Methodist Church in Rogers, with Al Fowler officiating. Internment will follow at Tucks Chapel Cemetery in Rogers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
