Hester B. Courson, 89, of Hamburg died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at her residence in Hamburg. A native of Haynesville, LA, a resident of Hamburg since 1966 and a former resident of Magnolia, she was a registered nurse in Magnolia from 1938 until 1966; the secretary/treasurer of R.M. Courson, Inc., from 1967 until present and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Crossett.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Richard "Dick" Courson of Hamburg; a son, Wayne Courson and wife Lummye of Hamburg; a son-in-law, Joseph Littlejohn of Eurant, OK; a brother, Curtis Benefield of Houston, TX; two sisters, Ruth Brodgen of Longview, TX,.and Janelle Bond of Laurel, MS; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Littlejohn; a granddaughter, Amy Littlejohn; her parents, S. C. and Nettie Kate Wynn Benefield; and four brothers, Carlton, Royce, Herbert and Prentice Benefield.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Meredith officiating. Burial followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Sadler, Johnny Stanley, Larry Collins, Charles Dunn, Howell Sedberry, and William Parker. Honorary pallbearers were Tom McLemore, Dr. J.D. Rankin, Joyce Myers, Peggy Akers, Kathy Cason, Herman Hamilton and Bobby Davis.
Memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Scholarship Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646.
