E.J. Mays, 80, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home. He was a member and trustee of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the men's chorus and the Brotherhood. He was a member of the Goodwill Masonic Lodge No. 221 and the E.O. Trent Consistory No. 223.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Washington Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith. Masonic House of Kadosh service will be 2 p.m. today at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; six daughters, Mattie L. Sanders, Mary Owens, Gloria Mays, Arnoldine Castleberry and Earnestine Bradley, all of Fort Smith and Carolyn Jordan of Arlington, Texas; four sons, George of St. Louis, William and James, both of Fort Smith and E.J. Mays Jr.of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Elnora McFadden of Chicago; two brothers, Warner Mays Sr. of Fort Smith and Penny Mays of Jayess, Miss.; 32 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Christian, Chester Baker, Robert Wilson, Henry Bell, Ravin Caldwell and Jeff Blassingame.
