Velda Jean Tyson Hogue was called by God to her eternal rest on Friday, October 9, 2020. She was born October 18, 1943 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Jack Burnett and Evelyn Louise Moore Shepherd.

Velda was raised in the Fort Smith area and went to school at Washington Elementary and was a Lincoln Graduate, class of 1961. She was baptized at an early age and a longtime member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She was blessed to have two children, Darryl and Devin Shepherd. Velda married Nathenal Tyson in August of 1966 and they had three children; Dawn, Nathalie and David. Velda entered Nursing School in 1968 and received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree (LPN) in 1969. She started her career at Sparks Hospital (Baptist Health Hospital) and was there for four years. She went on to spend the next forty-one years servicing in the Healthcare industry at St. Edwards Hospital (Mercy Hospital). Several times during her career, she won the Clinician Award, voted by students as the most helpful LPN. Upon retiring from Mercy, she spent the next five years working in Home Health.

Velda was blessed on Friday, August 5, 1988 when she married Gerald Hogue. The most important aspect of her life was her "FAMILY." She truly enjoyed and appreciated the large family dinners with her grandchildren on Sundays. She had a heart as pure as gold and dearly loved helping everyone in her path.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Darryl "Peanut" Shepherd; and brother, Isaiah "Ike" Matthew Jenkins.

Survivors: husband, Gerald Hogue; children, Kevin, David, Dawn and Natalie Tyson all of Fort Smith, AR; sister, Brenda Bean of Van Buren, AR; brother, Benny Taylor of Fort Smith, AR; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, Paula Enoch of Fort Smith, AR; her great-grandson, Jai Zavous, whom she later adopted; a host of other relatives and friends.
