Betty Hairston was the daughter of Allen J. Young (deceased) and Carriezine Martin, of Springfield, Arkansas. She attended the Fort Smith Public Schools. She was member of the Holly Spring Baptist Church in Springfield, Arkansas. She later moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas and became a member of The Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Van Buren, Arkansas where she was a member until her health began to fail. She died on Wednesday, August 1, 1990.
