Gladys Alberta Cristee Whittenberg passed from this life on August 24, 2022 at the age of 93 into the loving arms of her Savior.
She is survived by daughter, Linda Lininger (Dale) of Buda, TX; son, Mark Whittenberg (Lisa) of Fort Smith; grandson, Scott Whittenberg (Amanda); granddaughter, Laura Skelton (Neal); great-grandson, Liam Skelton all of Northwest Arkansas; sister, Thelma Carter of Fort Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, William (Bill) Whittenberg; sister, Wanda Gregg; and brother Leo Cristee.
Gladys was born November 3, 1928 to George and Edna Cristee. At their deaths when she was age 7, she was raised by her beloved grandmother, Marie Gerhardt Cristee. She graduated valedictorian from Alma High School. She was first employed as secretary by Jack Ragon of Hunts Department Stores for 10 years. She married Bill Whittenberg in 1953, and they went on to lease several shoe departments in Hunt's Department Stores, afterwards establishing Christy's Shoes. They were longtime members of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. Gladys was currently a member at First Baptist Church where she was originally baptized at age 17. She provided many blessings and happy memories through the years, and will be dearly missed.
