Mae was the eldest of seven children.
Mae and her husband Earl had a blacksmith shop at the Figure 4 community (near Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas) when they were young. (Earl's Dad was a blacksmith and used to go barefooted to the point he had caloused feet and couldn't feel the hot coals.)

Mae and Earl moved to Wichita Falls, Texas for a period. Mae's brothers Marvin and Jimmy soon followed. Her brother Wood had already moved to California.

Mae and Earl never had any children.

Mae worked at the Boston Store, a department store in Fort Smith, for many years. When they retired they loved to go fishing at the area lakes.
