FAYETTEVILLE — On March 30, Lorraine Holland, 95, ended her faith-filled pilgrimage in this life and began the joyous journey to the next. She was under the care of the Willard Walker Hospice Home. Lorraine was born March 12, 1920, in Springdale, Ark., to Glenn Sines and Bertha Meriam Hart.

At the age of five she moved to Fayetteville and spent the next 90 years there.

Lorraine's adult life took three decidedly different, but fulfilling, directions. Her marriage in 1942 to her first husband, Ed Patterson, produced two children, Edward "Buddy" and Meriam. Following Ed's death in 1961, Lorraine started a most enjoyable association with the University of Arkansas as Assistant Ticket Manager, where she developed a life-long passion for the Razorbacks.

Lorraine married Urban Holland in 1972 and for the next ten years they traveled the world. They also took special trips so Urban could play his banjo at banjo conferences. Lorraine accompanied the banjo players on the "gut-bucket," the converted washtub used as a rhythm device. Urban passed away in 1982, but Lorraine continued to attend banjo conferences and to play her improvised instrument until last year.

The third era of her life continued until Monday, March 30, 2015. This period of her life was filled with being a volunteer for the Washington Regional Hospital, an activity she continued until literally a week before she was hospitalized. She was a Worthy Past Matron of the Eastern Star, delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years, and, of course, cheered the Razorbacks at every opportunity.

Lorraine was a faithful member of the University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, where she participated in weekly Bible studies and was active in many volunteer opportunities there.

Surviving her are: Buddy Patterson, his wife, Cathy, of Rogers, Ark., and their sons, Caleb, of Houston, and Seth and his wife, Brittney, of Dallas, Texas; Meriam Benson, of Rogers, Ark., and her son, Jeff Neal, and his wife, Angela, of Springdale, Ark.; grandson, Jacob McWhorter, of Fayetteville, Ark.; step-children Pricilla Satterwhite and husband Raymond of Beaumont, Texas, Lucy Hall and husband, John of Houston, Texas, and Terry Fansler of Dallas, Texas; step-grandchildren, Greg and Scott Satterwhite and Katherine Crites; nieces Linda Weadock of Hot Springs, Ark., and Jacqui Brandli and her husband, Doug Cummins of Fayetteville, Ark. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Lorrain Holland's life will be held at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, with Dr. H.D. McCarthy officiating. Visitation at will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens attended by immediate family. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Washington Regional Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. Arrangements are under the supervision of Moore's Chapel Funeral Home.
