John H. Dawson, Sr., 91 of Camden, AR died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Ouachita County Medical Center. He was born February 17, 1921 to Lawrence E. and Allie Banks Dawson. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an Insurance Saleman in Camden for many years and served a number of years with the Arkansas State Legislature as a State Representative.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Jane Dawson; and his great granddaughter, Sydney Jane.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny Dawson, Jr. and Allen Dawson both of Camden, AR; daughter, Linda Jane Ferstl of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Jane Marie Reeves, Martha Lynn Dawson, John Dawson, III, Gina Newman, J. T. Ferstl and Tommy Ferstl; six great grandchildren; and his brother, Lawrence E. Dawson of Pine Bluff, AR.
The family would like to thank the personnel of Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation, Ouachita County Medical Center, Dr. Dan Martin and sitters and caretakers.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Camden, AR. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Proctor Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 223 Jefferson Street, S. W., Camden, AR 71701. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
