Joan Baxter Blass, 73, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Charleston, W.Va. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, La., and attended Shreveport's Centenary College. She worked in the machine accounting department of a Fayetteville insurance company, and was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith and Pine Bluff and in Church Women United. She was a member of Jefferson County Republican Women and Sebastian County Women, and was elected president of the auxiliary to the Southeast Arkansas Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith with a private committal service under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith. A reception with the family will follow the memorial service at the church. She is survived by her husband, Robert; one son, R. Baxter Blass of Ogden, Utah; and three grandchildren.
