Zora May "Zodie" Bales, 87, formerly of Fort Smith died Saturday, December 26, 2009 in a Paris Nursing Home. She was born May 9, 1922 in Moffett, Oklahoma to the late John Howard and Onnie Johnson.

She was retired from Whirlpool, a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Smith, a former Sunday school teacher and a past member of the Harmony Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong resident of Fort Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. "Bill" Bales and one son, Billy Sig Bales.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Evans of Greenwood; one daughter-in-law Nancy Bales of Baldwin, Missouri; one sister, Eleanor Bevilacqua of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Leesa Howard and her husband Bruce of Fort Smith, Bob Evans and his wife Michelle of Bentonville and William Bales and his wife, Maria of Greenwood Village, Colorado; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Ocker Putman Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Thompson
officiating. Private burial was held at Rose Lawn Park.

Pallbearers were Leo Boozman, Jr., Robert Boozman, Bob Evans, William Bales and Bill Ashworth. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith High School Class of 1940.
