Garland H. Slaughter, 56, died Wednesday in a veterans hospital in Little Rock after a long illness. The 35-year resident of El Dorado was born on August 26, 1911, and was the son of Henry Clay and Mary Ellen Darden Slaughter. He was a pipefitter, a member of the Jacob Brumb Masonic Lodge, a member of the Baptist Church and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of Litchfield, Ill., and the American Legion. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dorothy H. Slaughter; a daughter, Mrs. Gwen McClain; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Birmingham, Bislia, Calif; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday at 3 p.m. in the Pratt Chapel with the Rev. Glen Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Pratt Funeral Home. Masonic graveside rites were performed at the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were members of Pipefitters Local 706 of El Dorado. Active pallbearers were Charles McClain, Finis Lee, I. T. "Buddy" Riggs, J. B. Jolley, Bo Willis and N. W. Williamson. (El Dorado Times - November 3, 1967)
