Union County,
Arkansas

December 19, 1939 - January 25, 2015

Katie Sue Slayton, 75, passed from this life peacefully surrounded by her family on January 25, 2015. Katie Sue was raised in Junction City, Arkansas where she was a star basketball player in high school and a Majorette. Her children loved to hear the stories of her adventures and fun with her high school buddies in her Model A Ford. After school she attended Drones Business College in Shreveport and then worked for Murphy Oil.

Katie Sue grew up to be a Proverbs 31 Godly Woman. There are ten virtues of a Proverbs 31 Godly Women and she had all ten virtues. First, a woman of virtue has faith. Katie Sue served God with all of her heart, mind, and soul. She enjoyed playing the piano or organ in church for many years and loved to listen and watch Pastor Charles Stanley. She would seek God's will for her life and followed His ways. Second, a virtuous woman respects her husband. Katie Sue respected and loved her husband. Her husband's career with the Forest Service took her away from her home in Arkansas to Michigan and Washington State for almost 28 years but she was always supportive and encouraging and quick to create a home for them. Even though she left the South, she never lost her southern accent or southern charm. When she answered the phone everyone knew who it was! Third, a virtuous woman nurtures her children with the love of Christ, disciplines them with care and wisdom, and trains them in the way they should go. Katie Sue was a wonderful mother. She created a legacy in her children and grandchildren that will be passed down through the generations. The family sees "Mema" in all of her grandchildren. They all seem to have the same grit and determination. Katie Sue taught her children to set an example by always doing things the right way. If it was not done right, you were not excused until it was done right! Fourth, a virtuous woman prepares healthy food for her family. Katie Sue was a wonderful cook and often shared recipes with family and neighbors and she could really sew. She judged fashion shows and always made sure her family looked nice. Fifth, a virtuous woman serves her husband, her family, her friends, and her neighbors with a gentle and loving spirit. Katie Sue quietly served in so many ways to so many people and was giving in both thought and deed. She would take care of the needs of others or her community above her own, without making any fanfare about helping. She coordinated a flower box project to help beautify where she lived and took up a mail route to help her children pay for college. Sixth, a virtuous woman spends money wisely. Katie Sue was careful to purchase quality items which her family needed. And she made sure everything was kept so that it would last and last. Seventh, a virtuous woman works willingly with her hands. Katie Sue loved to keep an immaculate house and yard. The children and all their friends knew to take off their shoes before coming into Katie Sue's home. Her beautiful flowers and yard was known by everyone in every town they lived. Eighth, a virtuous woman is a homemaker. Katie Sue created an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love for her family and guests. She used hospitality to minister to those around her. Ninth, a virtuous woman uses her time wisely. Katie Sue worked diligently to complete her daily tasks. She would always have something to do and worked until it was done. Tenth, a virtuous woman is a woman of worth and beauty. Katie Sue had the inner beauty that only comes from Christ. Katie Sue used her creativity and sense of style to create beauty in her life and the lives of her loved ones. Katie Sue also had a great sense of humor and she will be remembered by her cackle.

Katie Sue will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her. Katie Sue is survived by her son, Scott Slayton and his wife Cindy; her daughter Suzanne Milam and her husband Scott; her grandchildren, Stuart G. Slayton, Gabriel "Gabe" R. Milam, Lauren E. Milam and Conrad R. Milam; her sister, Betty Ann Ainsworth and her husband Harold; and her nieces, Deanna Wyse and Tammy Gerber. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stuart H. Slayton and her parents, Graden and Inez Cates.

The family will begin receiving guests from 10:30 am at First Baptist Church, Junction City, AR on Thursday, January 29, 2015 with funeral services beginning at 11:30. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
