Silas Gardner, 78, of Junction City, died Saturday afternoon following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 26, 1888 in Caledonia, Ark., and was the son of Silas and Susan Brantly Gardner. He was a well-known sawmill supervisor and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Junction City. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 297 of Junction City. He was a member of the Junction Lodge No. 592, F and AM. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Brooxie Gardner of Junction City and two sisters, Mrs. John R. Cullins of Junction City and Mrs. Nellie Farley of Smackover. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Junction City with the Rev. Harold Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Pratt Funeral Home of Junction City. Active pallbearers include L. C. Davis, Jeff Linn, W. F. Linn, John Linn, Paul Gardner, J. D. Gardner and Curtis Gardner and J. V. Barteet. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the mens bible class of the First Baptist Church of Junction City, and members of the Union County Quorum Court, of which he was a member.
