Mary B. Mobley of Conway died March 25, 2010. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Maurice A. and Hilda Rumbach Blitz. Her daughter, JeJo Mobley and two brothers, Rev. Joseph H. Biltz and James H. Biltz, preceded her in death.
An active member of the community, Mrs., Mobley was a member of the Conway Civic League, the Faulkner County Democratic Women and Friends of the Library. Mrs. Mobley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway. She was a lifelong educator who received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway, Initially she taught at Ida Burns Elementary School teaching third and fourth grades. She then moved to Conway Junior High School where she taught 7th grade social studies. Eventually she became the guidance counselor at Conway High School.
Combining her interest in travel and education she spent two years teaching in international schools in Bolivia and Brazil. Later she taught at the College of the Ozarks (now University of the Ozarks) in Clarksville,, Arkansas. There she played an instrumental role in the newly developed learning center at that university.
In retirement Mrs. Mobley dedicated herself to children's literacy. She served as a volunteer at Florence Mattison Elementary School reading to children weekly for several years. Using her experience as an educator, she devoted her efforts in helping children learn to read.
Survivors include: her daughters, Joy Williams and husband Grady of Conway and his children Shannon Williams and husband Will and Keith Williams and wife Ashley and their children Conner and Lindsey. Jane Turney and husband Dr. Howard M. Turney of Little Rock; and grandson Howard ”Bo" Moose Turney, Jr. survive her. Two siblings Paul M. Biltz of Tokyo, Japan, and Evelyn "Ebby" Elser of Hot Springs and her nine children also survive her.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Mobley’s life will be held Monday, March 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Conway with Rev. Charles Murry officiating. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Just Communities of Arkansas in support of the Rev. Joseph A. Biltz Award or to the Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church in Conway.
