David Lloyd Guerin, O.D., 86, of Little Rock, died on Monday, January 26, 2009, at Baptist Hospital, a victim of multiple myeloma.

Dr. Guerin was born on May 27, 1922 in San Francisco, California, to Harold and Agnes Guerin. He was an optometrist, loving husband, and father to six children. He attended San Francisco City College and Oregon State University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in 1952. Dr. Guerin pursued his optometric practice in Hope and later Conway for over 50 years until his retirement in 2004 at age 82.

Dr. Guerin was preceded in death by his one true love and wife of 60 years, Jacqueline Thompson Guerin, a noted local artist; his parents and a brother, Jack.

Survivors include his children David Guerin and Paul Guerin, of Conway, Kathleen Kauffman (Jim) of Benton, and Kevin Allis (Ed), Peter Guerin and Bridget Weiss (David), all of Little Rock. In addition to his children, Dr. Guerin is survived by grandchildren Sarah Metcalf of Ft. Smith, Clint Metcalf of Fayetteville, Amanda Guerin, Brian Weiss (Beth), Scott Weiss and Claire Weiss of Little Rock, Sydney Allis of Portland, Oregon, Karl Allis of Denver, Colorado, Gabriel Guerin of Jonesboro, Pete Guerin, John Mark Guerin, Kate Guerin, Paulette Bane (Chuck) all of Conway, and Peter Weiss of Wayne, Pennsylvania, as well as sister in law Toni Nix of Texarkana, Texas. Also surviving are step-grandchildren Matthew Kauffman, Amanda Warren and their four children; and a sister-in-law, Toni Nix of Texarkana, Arkansas, four nephews and a niece.

Dr. Guerin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with distinction in World War II as a member of the 91st Division's Cannon Company, receiving a Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious service during the Italian campaign of 1944.

Dr. Guerin was past president of the Arkansas Optometric Association, a lifetime Rotarian (past president), a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Shriner's Bagpipe and Drum Corps and Chairman of both the Hempstead and Faulkner County Republican Parties. He pursued many interests during his lifetime including photography and music. He was noted for his wit and semi-funny jokes.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Diane Wilder, Dr. Mary Searcy and the staff at Baptist Health. In addition, the family would like to thank Lloyd's godsend Kathy Henley. She took special care of Lloyd in his final year.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Methodist Church in Little Rock on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11 AM, conducted by Rev. Fred Haustein. Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300 is assisting with arrangements.
