Robert Vernon "R.V." Alphin age 89 of Old Union passed from this life on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. R.V. was born on January 18, 1927 in Lawson, AR to the late Stacy J. Rushing Alphin and James Thomas Alphin. R.V. was a retired Pumper in the oil fields, serving 25 years with Alice-Sidney Oil Co. before his retirement in 1984. He was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and formerly enjoyed deer hunting. R.V. was a true family man and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whom will be truly missed by all.
R.V. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Virginia Sinclair Alphin; infant daughter, Melba Ann Alphin; seven brothers, Tom Alphin, LeeRoy Alphin, Sam Alphin, Herman Alphin, Alfred Alphin Monk, Alphin and Garrett Alphin; three sisters, Mable Bates, Mary Ann Evans and Myrtle DeFee.
Survivors include; one daughter, Evelyn Dorman and husband Herbert of El Dorado; one son, Troy Alphin and wife Katie of Magnolia; two grandsons, Steve Dorman of El Dorado and Josh Alphin of Magnolia; four great grandchildren, Ryan Dorman, Adam Dorman, Precious Dorman and Quinton Alphin; one sister, Maxine Sinclair of Old Union; granddaughter in law, Griselda Dorman of El Dorado along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Bailey Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Philadelphia Baptist Church near Old Union with Bro. Billy Smith and Bro. Gary Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Life Touch Hospice, Columbia County Animal Protection Society (CCAPS) of Magnolia or to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
