*Obituary

Anna Mae Townsend, age 91, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Southridge Village Nursing Center. Born in Pangburn, Arkansas, on January 19, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Jewell (Fakes) King.

Mrs. Townsend was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and was a retired food service director. She was a former resident of Memphis, Tennesee, where she lived from 1953 to 1995. Mrs. Townsend had been a resident of Heber Springs for twelve and a half years and was a member of the Heber Springs First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. C. Townsend, Jr.; one brother, Hugh King, and one sister, Doris (King) Goodwin.

Mrs. Townsend is survived by five nieces, Brenda DeFord of Heber Springs, Janis Moore of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Karon Martin, Dianne Watson, Alice Franka; one stepdaughter, Deborah Brattan; and three stepgrandchildren, Mark Word, Drew Word, and Tracey Langdon. Mrs. Townsend is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Dr. J. R. DeBusk. Interment will follow in the Henderson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cleburne County Historical Society or First Baptist Church of Heber Springs. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
