George Oliver Marshall of Hot Springs, AR died on Friday, September 14, 2012.

He was born March 23, 1930 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Thomas E. Marshall and Mamie Juneau Marshall.

He graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Inter Fraternity Council, and Committee of Fifty. He held office in school government and participated in other scholastic and social organizations.

George met his future wife, Susan Elizabeth Ellis, while at Centenary College. George and Sue were married on July 23, 1955 in St. John's Catholic Church, Shreveport, LA, and have 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

George served 8 years in the United States Army, of which 2 years was in active service in Korea.

His early employment was in the Oil Industry in Louisiana and Arkansas. In 1968, while living in Atlanta, GA, George was recruited by Ford Motor Company. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where George worked for Ford for 17 years as a Real Estate Manager. Their five children grew up, and attended college in Michigan. George was active in civic affairs and was elected President of the North Rosedale Park Civic Association, the largest association in the state of Michigan. He was also elected to Chair the North Rosedale Park Players Theater Group. His major activities were with St. Scholastica Parish Church and Elementary school and Benedictine High School.

He retired to Hot Springs, AR in 1985 where he and Sue had spent their honeymoon over thirty years earlier.

George was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Hot Springs Knights, Inc., Garland County Republican Committee and Board of Directors for Arc-isle. He held high offices in each organization.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan; daughter Kellee Greenway (husband Robert) and their children Kimberly Lieb (husband Joseph), Laura Panzer (husband Carl), Benjamin Greenway (wife Bethany and daughter Luciana), and William Greenway; daughter Sarah Church (husband Garry) and their children Amelia Hart (husband Jonathan and son Jack), and Samuel Church; daughter Cynthia Fung (husband Phillip) and their children Danielle Williams (children Anthony and Cassidy), Gabrielle Ward (husband Trevor and son Ethan), Caroline Kattermann, and Jessica Kattermann; son George Marshall, Jr. (wife Toni) and their children Justin Marshall, Kyle Marshall (wife Kerry), Myles Marshall and Alex Marshall; and daughter Patricia Soto (husband Ron) and their children Christopher Soto (wife Natalie) and Marshall Soto.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Patrick Marshall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Wednesday September 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. celebrated by Father James West.

Gross Funeral Home on Tuesday September 18,2012 ,Rosary to at 7:00 PM by Father Alan Rosneau .

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The Honor Guard, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will be posted at the Rosary and members of the Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.
