Mary Jo Jenkins was born May 1, 1939, to the late L Mae and Joseph Sherman in White Castle, Louisiana. She accepted Christ as her Savior under the shepherd of the late Bishop Roy Matheney at Fairview Church of God in Christ. As she learned of the ways of the Lord, she served in the capacity of Superintendent of the Sunday School Department as well as a Financier. She remained a faithful member until her death.

Mary Jo was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for about 40 years until she retired. Mary Jo did private sitting work, and for a while, she was a licensed beautician. She was always a hard worker that consistently maintained at least 2 to 3 jobs at a time. One of her favorite past times was going to the garage sales on Saturday morning. She didn't meet a stranger, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mary Jo had a talent for poetry and singing.

Mary Jo was married to the late T.C. Mathis briefly before marrying the late J.C. Jenkins for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by her son Delbert Mathis, her brother Arthur Blackmon, and brother Ralph Blackmon.

Mary Jo leaves to cherish her memories, her children Keith Ray of El Dorado AR, Aldreama Harper ( Rodney) of Dallas TX, Penny Brown ( Sandy) of El Dorado AR, Sunny Mathis of Dallas TX, T.C. Mathis of El Dorado AR, Stephanie White (Keith) of El Dorado AR, and Keoki Odems of Dallas TX. Her siblings Louis W. Blackmon Sr., Irma Blackmon McManus, and Rutha Blackmon Mitchell (Raymond), all of New Orleans, LA. She leaves behind a lineage of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
