Donna “Dee” Gates Post passed away on November 2, 2013 at the John R Williamson Hospice House. She was an incredible wife, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, daughter and teacher. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was very active, serving on several committees and also as a teacher and director of her Sunday School class. Dee was also very involved at the South Arkansas Arts Center where she served on the Board of Directors and Theatre Committee.

She was born in Fukuoka, Japan on June 2, 1950 to Delbert Gates and Maryjane Gates. Dee taught in the El Dorado School District for 41 years. During that time she received numerous awards including District Teacher of the Year and was twice recognized by the El Dorado Education Foundation as High School Teacher of the Year. She was the first teacher in the El Dorado School District to receive National Board certification. Dee’s passion and calling was to be a teacher. In the newspaper article written when she received District Teacher of the Year she said the following, “Your teachers who are considered the best teachers are the ones who love their kids and don’t hesitate to tell them that.” During her time in the district she had a positive impact on thousands of students.

Dee was preceded in death by her father, Delbert Gates, her nephews Zachary Little and Jack Ridinger, and her husband’s parents Wayne and Nadine Post. She is survived by her husband of 42 years Nelson Post, her mother Maryjane Gates and her sister Delaine Gates. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Vicki Arnold (Rick), Rita Little (Dean) and brother –in-law Stan Post (Diana). Also mourning her loss are her beloved nephews and nieces Greg Arnold, Seth Post (Meagan), Kerri Brown (Mark and his children Hunter and Madison), Laine Gates (Ramey Moore) as well as great- niece Caroline Ridinger and great- nephew Arlen Gates- Moore. Visitation will be at Immanuel Baptist Church on Monday, November 4th beginning at 4:00 pm with family available from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 5th at 2:00 pm with Faron Rogers and LaVon Post officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jack Ridinger Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Union County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 148, El Dorado, AR 71730 or to the John R. Williamson Hospice House, 2301 Champagnolle Rd, El Dorado, AR 71730
