June 8, 1931 - November 23, 2016
Laura Starnes, age 85, of Hot Springs, passed thru the gates of heaven on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was born June 8, 1931 in Hot Springs to Beatrice and Ralph Pittman. She was married to Charles Starnes on August 7, 1948, and was preceded by him in death in 2007.
She is survived by six children: Charlotte Shaw and husband Glen, Carol Kirkpatrick and husband Bobby, Linda Smith, Charles Starnes, Jr. and wife Bonnie, Tom Starnes and wife Charla, and David Starnes and wife Elaine; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Pittman, and one sister, Anna Lavagnino as well as several nieces and nephews.
After raising her children, she found great joy in being an active member of Harvey’s Chapel Baptist Church, volunteering in the clothes closet and food pantry. She loved shopping in flea markets and garage sales and would often buy toys and give them away to children who visited the clothes closet at Harvey’s Chapel.
Laura passed peacefully in her sleep at Quapaw Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident in the Memory Lane wing as well as on the nursing floor. Special thanks to all the staff at Quapaw for the kind and loving care she received.
Graveside services and interment will be held in early spring at Hollywood Cemetery in Hot Springs with arrangements being handled by Caruth-Hale Funeral Home of Hot Springs.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations may be made to Harvey’s Chapel Baptist Church Food Pantry Ministry (www.angelfire.com/ar3/harveyschapel) 2515 Mountain Pine Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
