JoAnn POE

Greenwood Cemetery
Garland County,
Arkansas

February 23, 1938 - August 10, 2019

JoAnn Poe, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, Saturday, August 10, 2019, after losing her battle with breast cancer.
She was born February 23, 1938, to Onita and Louis Tucker in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her journey would lead her all over the country, from Arkansas to California, but would inevitable lead to the greatest adventure of all, motherhood. She would go on to lovingly raise six children: Nicky Whisenant (Lori), Kim Hutzel (Mike), Darin Poe, Brande Coy, Cordell Poe, and Amber Iacobacci.
As one of the first women to fulfill the role of Mutual Teller, a role previously fulfilled only by men, at Oaklawn Racetrack, JoAnn was an early advocate for women in the workplace. She worked at Oaklawn for over forty years, developing friendships that would span her lifetime.
She lived each and every day working and providing for her family, even willingly going without so her children and grandchildren could have a better life than the one she had, with little help other than the love for her family and salonpas.
Her incredible kindness in putting others ahead of herself proved her to be the thread that held the quilt of this family together, giving constant moral support, financial support, and insurmountable love to all those who were fortunate enough to meet her.
Throughout her long journey, she helped to raise nine grandchildren: Jeff Hutzel, Shauna Hutzel, Jamie Johnson, Jessica Poe, Emily Jones, Jakeb Coy, Marco Iacobacci, Tucker Iacobacci, and Samantha Poe. JoAnn was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren whom she loved with every ounce of her being.
JoAnn was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Poe, and her parents, Onita and Louis Tucker. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
While it's hard now because she is not with us anymore, there is no doubt that her strength, humor, and love will never leave us, and will continue on.
Graveside service held at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 16. Following memorial service, fellowship held at family residence.
Services entrusted to Smith-Benton Funeral Home. Guestbook: www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
