William Robertson

William Bernard Robertson, 80, of Batesville died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at a Batesville nursing home.

Born April 25, 1921, at Oneal, he was the son of William Clete and Etta Leonard Robertson. He was a retired carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, an inactive elder of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Bethesda.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Burrow Robertson; two daughters, Peggy J. Smith of Batesville and Phylis J. Bratton of Hot Springs; a sister, Willie Mae Lancaster of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren, Janie Starnes, Jeannie Sade and Chris Rhodes, all of Batesville, and Tommy Rhodes of Barnwell, S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Phillip Halfacre of Jacksonville, Fla., Seth Sade, Sam Halfacre and Andy Rhodes, all of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rex Robertson, Nelse Robertson and an infant brother.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Wayne Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Cushman with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Chad Sade, Chris Rhodes, Donald Anderson, Jim Mitchum Jr., Mark Starnes, Duane Robertson and Kenny Sade.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vaughn Anderson, Andy Rhodes, Tommy Rhodes, Johnny Smith, Sam Halfacre, Phillip Halfacre, Dr. Bob Slaughter, Seth Sade, Gary Bratton and the entire staff of Wood-Lawn Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
