Carol June (Brown) Baskett was born October 30, 1921 to Rotha Keller Brown and Crawford Marvin Brown in Texarkana, Arkansas. She died February 24, 2019 in Fayetteville, Arkansas at home after a short illness.
Except for 5 years when she and her husband worked for the U.S. Government in Germany and travelled all over Europe and other places, she lived in Texarkana, moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas on June 15, 2001.
She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, where she volunteered in the Sunday school nursery department for 35 years.
When her children were in Fairview Elementary school, Texarkana, she was a Cub Scout leader for four years and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for five years. She received a lifetime membership in the PTA, having participated in three PTA Groups and serving on the City Council.
While living in Texarkana, she received a ten year service pin from the American Red Cross, having served at one time as the Board Secretary. For the twelve and one-half years before she moved to Fayetteville, she was employed in the office of Dr. Thomas L. Wilson. Since moving to Fayetteville, she volunteered at CASA of NWA and Fayetteville Public Library.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward Keith Baskett, her son, Franz Keith Baskett, Sr., her mother Rotha Keller Brown, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Keller, and her brother, C.M. Brown. She is survived by her daughter Mahala (Levie) Baskett of San Francisco, CA, granddaughter Sperry (Kurt) Workman, great grandchildren Allison and Jonathan Workman all of Memphis, TN, granddaughter Shana (Brian) Kelly of Baker, LA, grandson Franz Keith Baskett, Jr. and great grandchildren Max and Violet Baskett, all of Salt Lake City, UT., niece Laura Carol Goodman of Boulder, CO., great nephew Reed Goodman of San Francisco, CA.
The family is very grateful to Jean Hill, who for many years, by her assistance in many ways, made it possible for Carol June to live alone in her home. Thanks also go to Kay Coley, her friend, and visiting home health RN. Additionally, Carol June was joined in her later years in Fayetteville by her daughter, Mahala (Levie).
There will be a memorial service At Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville on Old Wire Road on Wednesday, March 6 at 2:00 PM with visitation after. Also, there will be a service in Texarkana, Friday, March 8, at 10AM at Texarkana Funeral Home on Texas Blvd. Visitation is at the same location in Texarkana on Thursday, March 7 from 6-8 PM.
