NANCY'S OBITUARY
With great sadness the family of Nancy Martin Campalans announces her passing after a valiant struggle with aggressive squamous cell carcinoma. She leaves behind her husband, Manuel and her beloved daughters Karla Julieta, Nancy Olivia, and Rebecca Isabel Campalans.

Nancy was born July 20, 1940 in Camden, AR to loving parents Oliver Dunlap Martin and Sarah Allen Sturgis Martin. In 1962 Nancy graduated from the University of Arkansas, married, and moved to Caracas, Venezuela where she lived for the next 16 years raising three daughters. On return to the United States, she went back to school and received a Master’s of Gerontology. In 1986, she began her career with the Veterans Health Administration as a Registered Dietitian. With her respected colleague Dr. Alan Vanbiervliet, she co-authored nationally distributed publications on Home Nutrition Support and three levels of dysphagia diets. Throughout her career, Nancy was passionately committed to helping veterans and their families. After more than 31 years of dedicated service, she retired from the VA in July of 2016.

Throughout her life Nancy dedicated herself to volunteering for the less fortunate including work with San Juan de Dios charity hospital, the annual Spanish Encuentro Health Fair, and most recently, Westside Free Medical Clinic. Nancy loved the Arts and was a long-time supporter of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Live series. A lifelong learner, she constantly challenged herself in both her personal and professional life. She was a voracious reader, progressive thinker and always ahead of her time.

Nancy is survived by her husband and children, cherished grandchildren Alexander and Madison Hurley and Natasha and Sophia Braga; sister, Helen; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who will all miss her loving presence. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother James Oliver Martin.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 9:00-11:00AM at Proctor Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held immediately after at 11:30AM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden, AR with Terrie Lynn Bunnell officiating.

Nancy wished to have a memorial service in Little Rock for friends and colleagues unable to attend graveside services in Camden. The service will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Reverend Betsy Singleton Snyder will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy’s life. The family respectfully requests that any floral pieces be sent to Proctor Funeral Home for the service in Camden.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to all who supported us during this journey. Special thanks to our cousin Cora Rogers and her family for all the help and support during this difficult time.
