Roscoe Nelson "Bill" Herring, 94, of El Dorado, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Timberlane Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Herring was born Aug. 11, 1919, to Jacob A. Herring and Effie Nelson Herring in Strong.

He was a local businessman in El Dorado, having owned and operated Herring Radio and TV Service for 20 years.

He had a love and a gift for repairing many types of things. In his retirement years, he turned his attention to restoring old radios. He also enjoyed feeding many birds that gathered in his yard.

Mr. Herring was also fondly remembered by his military service, where he served his country, and loved telling others that he had been around the world and back. He served in the 4th Ferrying Group in India.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Margaret Thomas Herring; and his parents. He was also predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Herring Gordon; and by a brother, John Thomas Herring of El Dorado.

He is survived by a brother, Frank Alan Herring of Bryant; one son, Don Alan Herring of Little Rock; two daughters, Sandra Herring Huffman of Vicksburg, Miss., and Vicky Lynn Herring of El Dorado; two grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at Arlington Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, with the Rev. Keith Dodson officiating. Also officiating will be the Rev. Hugh Nelson, who is Mr. Herring's first cousin.
