Her first husband died in 1891, and she married John Baker in 1902. Even so, most people still knew her as Laura Caststeel, and she is buried under that name even though she was Laura Baker at the time of her death.

Mrs. Laura Caststeel, 69 years old, died at her home here Sunday as the result of a heart ailment. Funeral services were held Monday in the Heiskill Cemetery with the Rev. Allan Nance, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating.
Mrs. Caststeel was one of the early pioneers of this county and was well known over the entire county. She had many friends who respected and loved her. She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include five sons, Will Caststeel of Laytonville, Jim Caststeel of Monticello, John Caststeel of Guion, Elbert Caststeel of Mt. Home and Burley Baker of Mt. Home.
