*Obituary
Sarah Swilley Callaway died at peace in her home, in accord with her wishes, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Woodlawn Cemetery in El Dorado, Ark.
Memorials: The family requests memorials be made to Vitas Hospice, 2501 Parkview Drive, Suite 600, Fort Worth 76102; or a charity of choice.
Sarah was born July 18, 1923, in El Dorado to Nancy and Wharton Swilley. After graduating with a B.A. from the University of Arkansas, she married Henry Callaway and they had four children. The family moved several times for Henry's career in the oil and gas industry, eventually settling in Midland.
Sarah raised and nurtured her family, finding time to help with PTA, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, school, music lessons and sports. She was well known for her drawer full of snacks. She took particular pride and satisfaction from her work on the board of directors for High Sky Girls Ranch.
She led an active social life, was a member of the Petroleum Club and Racquet Club, and enjoyed the company of many good friends. She spent numerous happy hours playing bridge, grew beautiful irises and painted china for her daughters.
In 2003 Sarah moved to Fort Worth to be closer to her family and enjoy all three generations. They are grateful to Betty Gould, her caregivers, and the hospice group for their compassion and kindness.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1999; and her son, Fred, in 2004.
We will all miss her.
Survivors: Her daughters, Nan Peacock and husband, James, Julia Callaway and husband, Joe Madden; son, Charles Callaway and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Chris Peacock and wife, Stacey, Jessica Peacock Liberto and husband, Chad, Clayton Callaway and wife, Catherine, and Blake Callaway; four great-grandchildren; sister, Dodie Vestal; and brother, John Wharton Swilley.
