Mittie Toland Downs, 78 of Hemphill, Texas went to her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2014 in Shreveport, LA.
Born February 6, 1936 in El Dorado she was the daughter of Harvey and Inez Toland. Mittie finished El Dorado High School and later took business courses by mail. She worked in radio in Texas before coming back to El Dorado to become traffic controller at KTVE television for the next ten years. She then moved to Houston, Texas where she was a secretary for Channel 11 there, later moving to City of Houston as office secretary and as Tax secretary for the city of Pasadena. She later became the private secretary to the vice-president of the AFL-CIO International Union and later was the Chief Clerk for the Constable's office in Precinct 2 of Houston, Texas. She was of the Church of Christ faith.
She and Clifford later retired to Toledo Bend Lake residing in the Hemphill, Texas area.
Preceding her in death along with her parents were brothers, Lester Toland and Chester Toland and a sister, Ruthie Toland.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford C. Downs, Sr. of Hemphill, TX, two sons, Clifford C. Downs, Jr. of Hemphill and Beryl Downs (Connie) of El Dorado and daughters, Kathy Enfinger (Steve) of Columbia, TN and Carmen Atkinson (Gary) of Jonesboro, GA and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in Young's Chapel with Kent Jobe officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening at Young's.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
