Henry P. was born in Georgia, migrated to Russell County, Alabama and finally to Phillips County, Arkansas in December of 1859. He was a successful cotton farmer and at the time of his death had substantial land holdings in Lee County. He was a Representative to Arkansas Legislature from 1867-68. Four of his sons served in Dobbins' Cavalry, CSA during the War Between the States. Henry P. had a lifelong association with the Baptist church, was a deacon and elected moderator of the Mount Vernon Baptist Association. H. P. Slaughter married Prudence Pope Bickerstaff on 13 October 1829 in Jasper County, Georgia and from this union know issue: Mary Jane, Henry Robert, Sarah Frances, Thomas Jefferson, Nancy Margaret, George Washington, William Warren, Arthur, Leonidas and James Alexander. His will was probated in Lee County, Arkansas.
