Ms. Trecie Lee Thomas of Ozark, Arkansas, died on January 14, 2014 at Mercy Clinic Palliative Care Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
She was born February 6, 1921 in the Mineral Hill Community near Shores Lake and was 92 years, 11 months and 8 days old at her passing.
She was the daughter of James Henry Johnson and Rittie Edwards Johnson of White Rock Community.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Retha Johnson Stapp and her brother, Lenzy Johnson. She was married to Dennis Marion Thomas in 1951, who died in 1986. She had three children: son, Dennis Ray King (deceased, 1995) of Mulberry; a daughter, Janet Thomas Hart of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Harold Lloyd Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Dennis Shane King, Daniel Shawn King, and Emily Elizabeth Thomas, and three great grandchildren, Nakole King, Colton King and Braelyn King.
Trecie loved to laugh, and she will always be remembered for her great sense of humor. She was known to say funny things out of the blue, as well as anything else that might cross her mind. She also had a truly empathetic heart, especially where children were concerned. She will be remembered as a wonderful hostess and a fantastic cook of traditional foods. The memory of her amazing meals will always be cherished by her family members.
Since becoming a widow in 1986, she lived alone, taking care of her home and large yard and driving herself almost everywhere she went until just recently. She was the happiest when working in her yard on a nice day. She could frequently be seen weed-eating, picking up fallen limbs, or mowing using one of her two riding lawn mowers. As she often said she rowed her own canoe.
Trecie cherished her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and cousins, and good friends. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by us all.
Funeral arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. A visitation will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 PM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Shaffer
Funeral Home Chapel along with a graveside service at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 17, 2014 with Reverend Freeling H. Clower officiating at Rankin Cemetery in White Rock Community.
